Local photographer showcases dream

New Orleans, LA – “Dreams Do Come True,” a solo photography exhibition by L. Kasimu Harris, is showing New Orleans how to dream.

“The exhibit is an observation of Harris’ dreams where he explores presidential, and saintly dreams as well as imagery from his subconscious thoughts,” the photographer said in a press release.

“Dreams Do Come True” is also the title of one of Harris’ images, which was included in the season four opening credits of HBO’s Treme.

The images included in the opening credits of the show were taken in early January 2009 during the Perfect Gentleman Social Aid & Pleasure Club’s second-line themed “Dreams Do Come True.” Other photographs in the exhibition feature New Orleans Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins and his wife as well as Saints defensive back Jabari Greer.

This exhibit is the first in a series that the Modern Hotel plans to host at Bellocq, the hotel’s cocktail lounge named for John Earnest Joseph “E.J.” Bellocq who was a professional photographer working in New Orleans during the early 20th century.

“Dreams Do Come True” is on display until January 26. An artist’s talk featuring Harris is scheduled for Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. The exhibit’s closing party will be held on Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. Bellocq opens daily at 5 p.m.
