Four community members—three adults and one youth—were recognized for their accomplishments in the community and education during Mother’s Helpers Mentoring Company’s 3rd Annual Literacy Benefit, Jan. 25 at Crystal Magnolia Country Club in New Orleans East.
Mother’s Helpers is a mentoring company that provides social services as well as independent living and leadership development opportunities to youth who may experience adverse growing up. In addition to these services, Mother’s Helpers focuses on literacy and education.
This year’s benefit had a two-fold purpose of raising funds for the organization and honoring community members.
Honorees were Lisa A. Crinel, Community Advocate of the Year; Ronesha Thomas, Youth Achievement; Kareem Kennedy, Mentor of the Year and Emelda King , Village Keeper of the Year.
“We’re growing, and we are definitely paying tribute to people who are participating or helping with the program,” said Jerrelda Drummer Sanders, executive director of Mother’s Helpers.
