With the start of August upon us, we know that the 2011 school year is fast approaching.
In lieu of it all, Love Impact Inc. will once again live up to its name and help local students gear up by providing some of the essentials needed to get off to the best start by hosting its Back to School Bash on Sunday, August 7, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Walter L. Cohen Senior High School, 3520 Dryades Street.
This project; a collaborative effort with community partners Shorty, Dooley, & Hall LLC, looks to help more than 1,000 area elementary and middle-school students by providing free school supplies, backpacks and uniforms along with health screenings.
Last year, the event served more than 500 families in the community through donations given by various organizations.
“Our back to school bash began because we noticed that preparing for school can be a burden for members of our community and several students were beginning the school year without the supplies necessary to have the best chance of success,” Love Impact Inc. Executive Director Greg Lawson told The Louisiana Weekly. “Many families spend an average of $250 per child on uniforms and school supplies.”
Uniforms donated by (Jackie’s School Uniforms), will include khaki, navy and grey school pants, white, blue, yellow and navy uniform shirts, along with two pair of socks. Each family can receive two uniforms per child and children must be accompanied by parents to take part in the give-a-way.
Love Impact, Inc. is a non-profit that has been empowering and equipping children and their families through innovative programming since 2004, offering several programs that cater to the specific needs of our communities. The organization has supported the community through other projects such as Walk-A-Mile for a Mortgage; an awareness campaign that assisted six local families whose homes were in risk of foreclosure.
