Delgado’s reputation gets major boost

A recent report published in Community College Week listed Delgado Community College among the nation’s fastest-growing public two-year colleges with enrollments of at least 10,000 students.
Established in 1921 and enrolling more students than any other higher education institution in the New Orleans region, Delgado is at No. 22 on the publication’s 2014 list of the Top 50 fastest-growing public two-year colleges that enroll 10,000 or more students.
The list was compiled from an analysis of U.S. Department of Education data for fall 2012 and fall 2013. In that period, Delgado experienced 3.3 percent growth in student enrollment, from 18,096 to 18,698.
The list includes students enrolled in for-credit programs only. It does not include students involved in workforce development initiatives. Delgado has about 15,000 additional students who fit that description.
“The growing awareness among the regional community of the excellent educational opportunities available at any of our Delgado locations contributes to our enrollment growth,” Delgado Chancellor Joan Davis said last week. “More than ever before, Delgado is becoming a first choice for students seeking an entry point to achieve educational goals and future career success. And, we continue our long tradition of serving people of all ages and backgrounds in college degree programs and career-oriented education.”
