Building program gets fraud oversight

The monitoring will involve investigators from the city’s Office of Inspector General, the State Legislative Auditor, the Gover­nor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness and the Recovery texas vet loan School District. The plan neared completion today when the New Orleans City Council’s Govern­mental Affairs Committee approved a necessary agreement to allow Inspector General Ed Quatrevaux to be involved. Though the full council must approve the deal, such a vote is likely with the committee’s recommendation.

The program introduces new measures to make sure schools don’t get duped by pricey contractors – including closer monitoring of construction activities and vetting of vendors as well as sub-contractors.
