Job title: Assistant Video Director
Location: New Orleans, LA (70116)
Employment type: Full Time
Job description
WWOZ is the premiere media outlet for New Orleans music, and the video department supports WWOZ’s mission to be the worldwide voice, archive, and flag-bearer of New Orleans culture and musical heritage.
Here’s a one-minute intro to the Video Department: https://vimeo.com/155601067
We document a wide range of local music and culture, from traditional to contemporary. We livestream and record performances from WWOZ’s studio in the French Quarter, as well as from other venues and festivals in New Orleans and the region. We cover the spectrum of local parade culture — 2nd lines, krewes, parades, Mardi Gras Indians, and more. We shoot with everything from large studio cameras to GoPros and handheld mid-size cameras, with support from a 10 foot tripod, gimbals, and a drone.
The Assistant Video Director supports the Video Director in all phases of production and post-production. We use professional video cameras, audio equipment and lighting, and seek someone who has at least some experience in these areas, and more importantly, is able and eager to learn all aspects of filming, editing, live streaming, and distributing video through social media. The ideal candidate is well-organized and can keep records and communicate well verbally and in writing; s/he is good at working independently and as part of a team. Familiarity with New Orleans music and culture is a plus.
The position is full time, 40 hours/week, but flexibility is a must, as we often film in the evenings, on weekends, and on holidays. The applicant must be able to spend eight to ten hours standing or walking, and be able to move equipment up 45 pounds. A valid driver’s license is required, and a functioning vehicle is a plus. Mileage costs are reimbursed.
Please send a resume and cover letter, and link(s) to videos that you have worked on, and with a description of exactly what your role was in producing each video. We do not expect applicants to be experienced with everything we do, but it would be useful if you mentioned experience in these areas:
- Filming with professional video cameras
- Video editing – in particular with a strong sense of story
- Multi-camera live switching
- Studio lighting, location lighting (stage and interview)
- Recording music (audio)
- Interviewing
- Adobe Suite: Premiere Pro, Audition, Photoshop, After Effects
- Graphic Design, Motion Graphics
- Building and maintaining spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets)
Bachelor’s degree with minimum of 2 years successful experience preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills required.
WWOZ offers excellent benefits package.
Please submit via email a cover letter, resume, and 3 professional references. Email application packet to: employment@wwoz.org. No telephone calls or walk-in visits, please. For best consideration, apply by Monday – October 8, 2018.
