Faubourg Lafitte reopens tennis courts at Sojourner Truth Center

A Sojourner Truth Neighbor-hood Center Tennis Court Dedication Ceremony was held in Faubourg Lafitte on Saturday morning, April 6.
Among those in attendance were NORD Commission Chairman Roy Glapion, Bill Phillips, USTA Southern Tennis Service Representative Bill Phillips, Iberia Bank Exec. Vice President Cleland Powell, the Rev. Michael Jacques, pastor of St. Peter Claver Church, Emelda Paul, president of the Faubourg Lafitte Tenants Association, Laura Tuggle of the Housing Authority of New Orleans and Terri B. North, president and CEO of Providence Enterprises.
As a part of its commitment to resident services at Faubourg Lafitte, the development team is upgrading its recreation facilities. The recently completed playground, landscaped green space and resurfaced tennis courts are located across the street from Faubourg Lafitte, adjacent to the Sojourner Truth Neighborhood Center, and along the route of the future Lafitte Greenway.
In 2012, Sojourner Truth hosted an eight-week youth tennis session in partnership with the United States Tennis Association.
More than 40 children participated from the Faubourg Lafitte community.
