Author Carl Weber’s tour stops in New Orleans

Fans of popular author Carl Weber can not only get the scoop on his new book, The Family Business, but meet the man behind the words. The New York Times and Essence #1 Bestselling author’s tour makes a stop in the Big Easy on Monday, February 6 at the Geystan Originals Studio 123 (Artegg Studios), located at 1001 S. Broad St, from 6-7:30pm.

The Afro-American Book Stop will serve as host for the book signing/reading.

The Family Business chronicles the Duncan’s: a Queens family, running a successful auto dealership by day, all while living a dangerous secret life by night.

Weber, who partnered with Lafayette native, author Eric Pete for his latest work, states The Family Business is his most challenging project so far.

“It was a little different for me,” Weber told The Louisiana Weekly. “This is a family drama, but with a little bit of a darker twist. I’m definitely stepping out of my comfort zone. “This particular story doesn’t derive from things I know, but it is a story I wanted to tell. My last book dealt with a church family; I wanted to do something totally different.”

Weber is also breaking the mold of recurring characters in his novels. “These are all new characters,” he said. The book is the first installment of a trilogy of stories of the Duncan family.

Along with The Family Business, Weber is the author of over 10 books including Big Girls Don’t Cry, Torn between Two Lovers, Some­thing on the Side, the Preacher’s Son and The Choir Director.

The author/publisher is excited to return the Crescent City.

“It’s been a while since I visited,” the New York native told The Louisiana Weekly. “It’s been about four or five years, so I’m really looking forward to talking to fans in New Orleans.”

“Carl Weber has become one of the top-selling authors in the African-American fiction genre,” Michele Lewis of the Afro-American Book Stop says. “He’s one of those authors that will get your attention from the very beginning and hold it until the last page. He’s in the class along with Kimberla Lawson Roby, Mary B. Morrison, & Zane. I’m hopeful that all of the local Carl Weber fans (or anyone looking for a good book to read) will come out and support this event.”
