Businesses add 200,000 jobs in September

(Special from NorthStarNews Today) – The nation’s non-farm businesses added 200,000 jobs in September, ADP National Employment Report announced on last week.

ADP, which is based in Roseland, N.J., publishes its figures two days before the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics releases its closely watched jobs’ report.

ADP derives its numbers from its 411,000 U.S. client companies’ payroll data. The report measures payrolls of nearly 24 million U.S. workers.

ADP reported that small business, consisting of 1 to 49 workers, added 37,000 new employees. Medium businesses, consisting of 50 to 499 employees, added 56,000 workers, and large businesses, consisting of 500 to 999 workers, lost 3,000 jobs. Companies, however, with 1,000 or more workers added 109,000 new jobs for a net gain of 106,000 workers.

The goods-producing industry added 12,000 jobs and the service-providing sector added 188,000 jobs, according to ADP.

By industry, construction, trade/transportation/utilities, financial activities and professional-business services all added jobs, but manufacturing lost 15,000 jobs, the worst showing since December 2010.

“Despite the job losses in manufacturing, the economy is creating close to 200,000 jobs per month,” said Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody’s Analytics. “At this pace, full employment is approaching.”
