College students invited to apply for state government fellowship program

(lailluminator.com) — College and university students interested in state politics can now apply for the 2021 Governor’s Fellows Program in Louisiana Government.

The summer program “allows college and university students the opportunity to experience the inner workings of state government and gain a deeper understanding of public policy,” according to a press release from the Gov. John Bel Edwards’s office. Each selected fellow is assigned a cabinet-level agency to observe first-hand how policies are developed and implemented.

“The fellowship program has been cultivating and inspiring the next generation of leaders in Louisiana for the past three years,” Gov. Edwards said in the release. “I strongly encourage all college students to apply if they are interested in how state government and public service work.”

The program is open to all students attending a Louisiana higher education institution and to Louisiana residents enrolled in out-of-state colleges and universities. Applicants must be “undergraduates who have completed their sophomore year” or “graduate students who have completed at least one of their degree program.”

The fellowship runs from May 31 to July 31. Fellows will receive housing at LSU, a stipend up to $1,500 and three credit hours through the LSU Public Administration Institute. Applications are due February 28.
