Four finalists for chancellor of Southern-BR campus

The Southern University chancellor search committee said last week that it will be interviewing four candidates for the position of chancellor of the Baton Rouge campus: Earl G. Yarbrough, Sr., Ph.D., President, Savannah State University, GA; Belinda Childress Anderson, Ed.D., President, Vanguard Anderson, LLC, Richmond, VA; James Llorens, Ph.D., Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, Office of the Mayor-President, Baton Rouge/East Baton Rouge Parish; and Robert R. Jennings, Ed.D., Administrator, Gems, Inc., Union City, GA.

The search committee also announced last week that Philander Smith College President, Dr. Walter M. Kimbrough, has withdrawn his name from the applicant pool and decided to interview for another opportunity.

Kimbrough told the DHR International search firm of his decision, search committee co-chairman Pat Magee told The Advocate.

“Personally, I’m disappointed Dr. Kimbrough has withdrawn from consideration.  I certainly understand his desire to enhance his career in seeking another direction,” Magee said.

The remaining four candidates will be interviewed in Baton Rouge on April 18, 19 and 20. The committee is set to make a recommendation to System President Ronald Mason, Jr. at the next search committee meeting scheduled for April 21, 2011. A detailed interview schedule will be posted on the system’s website (www.sus.edu). The public is invited to attend.
