The Louisiana Weekly Staff Reports

One of the jurors hearing the case against five current or former police officers charged in the deadly shootings on the Danziger Bridge after Hurricane Katrina has been replaced by one of four alternates.

U.S. District Judge Kurt Engelhardt on July 18 granted a request by federal prosecutors to excuse a woman from the jury after she learned during the trial that she is related to the wife of one of the defendants.

The defendant isn’t named.

The trial began its fourth week of testimony.

The Danziger Bridge shootings killed two people and wounded four others less than a week after the 2005 storm.
