New Hope Baptist Church hosts annual scholarship luncheon

21st January 2014   ·   0 Comments

New Hope Baptist Church lives up to its name.

It certainly does provide new hope. Just ask the 30 college-enrolled students and high school seniors who are and will receive scholarships for continuing with their education.

Now, in its 17th year, the Annual H.M. Clark Sr. Scholarship luncheon, which is the catalyst for this philanthropic endeavor, was held recently on January 4 by the New Hope Scholarship Ministry.

Highlighting the luncheon was the announcement that 13 2014 high school graduates will become the recipients of the Ministry’s largesse, joining the “17 continuing college students” they have already “enrolled.”

Guest speaker for the occasion was the Honorable Patrick O. Jefferson, La. State representative for District 11. He spoke on how to “Rise Above Low Expectations,” citing Philippians 4:13- “I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.”

Rosie Calvin serves as scholarship ministry chairperson. Luncheon chairperson was Ann N. Legaux. Co-chairs were Beulah Harrison and Noble McGary.

The Rev. Jamaal Weathersby is pastor of New Hope Baptist Church.
