If Jesus walked the earth today, probably no one would like him.
Yes, everybody tries to make his words fit their cause, habit, lifestyle, opinion, or persuasion. But if you really look at his recorded words straight-up, without the philosophical gymnastics, and ideological contortions that suit one’s interest group, Jesus was actually for some things and against others.
Most folks simply lack the integrity to admit that they disagree with Jesus.
Based on a straight read of his recorded words, I believe that everybody, including me, would have a problem with something he would have to say. Personally I believe that liberals would not appreciate Christ’s take on sexual issues and abortion. Conservatives would disagree with nearly everything else he said or did.
We would like to present the conservative, republican, tea party, racist response to some of the things Jesus said, based on the beliefs and policies they actually promote. However, some of these responses apply to the USA in general. This is a pretty wicked nation without the Rabid Right.
CHRIST: “For I was hungry and you gave me no food.” Matt 25: 42
RIGHT WING RESPONSE: “We would rather judge people who are hungry and condemn them for being in need. If they are Christians they are lazy, if they are not Christian they are being judged by God. We also create international food dependency by destroying crops and manipulating markets. If we grow enough dangerous GMO food we might give your some of that.”
CHRIST: “I was thirsty and you gave me no drink.” Matt 25:42
RIGHT WING RESPONSE: “Give you water? Do you know how much money we make worldwide by creating water shortages? Plus we increase our profits by polluting water. Fresh water is for those who can afford it. Get real.”
CHRIST: “I was a stranger and you did not take me in: Matt 25:43
RIGHT WING RESPONSE: Homeless people are crazy and dangerous deadbeats. We ought to make it illegal to be homeless. Wait a minute! We are doing that already. The homeless will have plenty of company when we finally abolish low-income housing. They won’t be lonely.
CHRIST: “I was naked and you did not clothe me, Matt 25:43
RIGHT WING RESPONSE: “We give our old clothes to Goodwill. Ain’t that enough? Besides, you were naked because you didn’t want anything in life and were waiting on handouts. We know this because Fox News said so. We’re not supposed to care.”
CHRIST: “I was sick…and you did not visit me.” Matt 25:43
RIGHT WING RESPONSE: “When you were sick we asked how you would pay for treatment. You couldn’t, so we didn’t. Healthcare is not a right, it’s a business. It’s your own fault if you die without it. We also make a lot of money keeping people sick instead of helping them heal.”
CHRIST: “I was in prison and you did not visit me.” Matt 25:43
RIGHT WING RESPONSE: “You were in prison because you are not as good as us. Even if you are innocent, you probably would have broken the law eventually. No mercy there, unless you are ripping the nation off for billions of dollars. Then you are a respectable criminal.”
BIBLE: “He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord.” Proverbs 19:17
RIGHT WING RESPONSE: F.O.T.F.L.M.A.O.! Giving to the poor only encourages poverty. Besides we make tax-deductible contributions to charities that help the people we hurt when we destroy businesses, neighborhoods, educational systems and national economies.
CHRIST: “The LORD hath anointed me to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound.” Isaiah 64:4
USA RESPONSE: Are you nuts? We built this nation on slavery and continue to use it in different forms today. Prison is a big, profitable business. We must guarantee they will keep 90 percent occupancy so the private corporations will purchase them. Also we will lobby for harsher laws and stiffer sentences to keep the prisons filled. Then we will exploit prisoners for clothes, phone calls, etc. We don’t rehabilitate prisoners, we recycle them.
THE BIBLE: “…if any would not work, neither should he eat.” 2 Thessalonians 3:10
RIGHT WING RESPONSE: “We will destroy hundreds of thousands of jobs to increase our profits, and then we will blame those who can’t find work for being lazy.”
THE BIBLE: “He who oppresses the poor to increase his riches, And he who gives to the rich, will surely come to poverty.” Proverbs 22:16
USA RESPONSE: “Get real. We do it It’s always worked for us!”
CHRIST: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
RIGHT WING RESPONSE: “I do love my neighbor as long as he shares my race (white), class, party and religion… and his name is not Obama!”
Now Whatchagonna do to change some of this?
