(lailluminator.com) — Louisiana residents have little time left to register to vote in the upcoming presidential primaries.
Residents have until March 2 to register online at GeauxVote.com, according to Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry. The deadline to register in person, by mail or at an Office of Motor Vehicles branch has past. It was Wednesday, Feb. 21.
The Presidential Preference Primary, which will be held on March 23, is a closed party election, which means only registered Democrats and Republicans will be allowed to vote in their party’s respective races.
Additionally, there are local elections in 24 parishes in which all voters, regardless of party, may cast their ballots. The Secretary of State encourages voters to check their registration and party affiliation at GeauxVote.com before the registration deadlines.
Early voting for the March 23 election will take place March 9-16, excluding Sunday, March 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
